We met like most new-age couples these days - Online Dating. Rob was scrolling through OKCupid, trying to find someone to keep him company while he played Destiny until 3am, when suddenly he came across a bright smiling face and a really cute cat. It was at that moment Rob knew he had to message this woman. His pick up line: "Hey, I also like Game of Thrones. I didn't really read a lot growing up because I thought it was for nerds. I'm on the third book." Hannah was intrigued by this man's honesty and decided to reply. Little did we know it was the beginning of the end of our single lives.
The only good thing to come from 2020 has been our engagement it seems. We traveled to Kauai right before everything shut down due to Covid-19. We had a week of paradise and then came back to the world catching fire. But let's focus on the happy times... We went to Kauai with Hannah's family and stayed at an Airbnb that was walking distance to two beaches. Rob, being Rob, had no idea where he would be proposing, he just knew he was going to do it. We arrived March 2nd and walked down to the first beach. The moment Rob saw that first beach he knew it wasn't the right place. Rob then decided to fly by the seat of his pants. He told Hannah they would wake up early the next day and watch the sunrise at Shipwreck beach. Rob had no idea what it was going to look like but he knew it had to be better than the other beach. The next morning, March 3rd, we woke up early and walked down to the beach. Rob, inconspicuously, brought an entire backpack to watch the sunrise. When we arrived there was a beautiful lookout on top of a small cliff that looked out over the ocean. We took some pictures with our polaroid camera and then Rob said "I have some props for us, but you have to close your eyes." Hannah closed her eyes and Rob got down on one knee. When she opened them Rob took the most unflattering picture to ever be taken and asked Hannah to be his wife. The beach just so happened to be the first beach Hannah had ever been to during her first visit to Hawai'i, during her own Grandparent's 50th Wedding Anniversary.
