It was never planned, what sparked between us. Neither one of us was searching for the one. We were both students at Alma College. I was a second-year; he a first. I was working a shift alone at the rock wall in the student rec center when he and his dorm neighbor came to climb. From the moment our eyes met, there was a sparkle. He knew almost immediately, and I brushed it off as nothing. Being the friendly and fun employee I was, I made a little joke I usually used to ease any nervous first-time climbers. As I handed him the harness, I explained, "You put this on like you put on a pair of pants. If you don't know how to put on pants I'm sorry I can't help with that - not quite sure how you made it this far." It wasn't that great of a joke, but somehow it was that line that hooked him in the most. From there he tried his best to flirt with me as I continued to deny his attempts, dismissing all very obvious signs of interest as him just being friendly. I stayed in denial for a little over a week. Every attempt he made (as obvious and as cheesy as I found it) I brushed off. Well, because why would he be interested in me?! On November 3rd, 2016, we sat on a park bench outside of the dorms and spent the whole night into the next morning talking. At one point, he turned my Claddagh ring around to indicate I was in a relationship and I never turned it back. From that point on our journey began!
