It was the first time in 31 years that I didn't go home for Thanksgiving because my mom was traveling. I was back in LA minding my own business when I got a text from one of my best friends in Florida saying, "I'm with this guy that I think you need to go out with." I honestly didn't think too much about it until a few hours later when I got a notification on my phone that I had a new message on my IG. Low and behold, my future fiancé! After thousands of texts back and forth and a lot of emojis (we particularly liked the water gun one for some reason) we finally scheduled to meet on December 7, 2017 at a restaurant in LA called Kali, how apropos! I knew from the second that we met that this was going to be something and here we are 4.5 years later!
It was just another Sunday in LA and Jordan had told me earlier in the week that we were going to be meeting his friend, his friend's wife and kids at the Beverly Hills Hotel for lunch and that they wanted to meet Jackson, so he was coming with. He mentioned one or two times that they were notoriously late, so when we arrived at the hotel and he said they were 20 minutes behind, I wasn't very surprised. It was the first time we were at BHH since Covid, so we decided to walk around and see what had changed. We walked down a set of stairs that led to a garden where a butler and the most beautiful picnic I've ever seen was set up. "WOW!" I said. " This is so pretty! Someone must be getting engaged." I honestly didn't think anything of it and kept walking around taking in the nice weather and setting. As we were circling back to the exit I must have said how pretty the set up was for the tenth time (because it truly was magical), when Jordan said we should take a closer look. In my mind I was thinking that we needed to get out of there because we were about to ruin someone's special day (how I didn't realize what was going on is beyond me). The next thing I know, Jordan starts walking towards the picnic and says "we should probably just stay." Yeah, of course we should stay, but we have lunch! Next thing I know, he was getting down on one knee and pulling something out of his jacket pocket. I have never screamed so loud or jumped up and down so many times in my adult life. Not only was the beautiful picnic for me, but my best friend and love of my life just asked me to marry him. I don't think I will ever get over this moment. Just typing this feels so surreal.
