We met at San Diego City College. He began taking courses towards his degree in the spring of 2016, and I began working on my degree that following fall semester in 2016. His major was AODS and mine was Psychology/ Black Studies. Both of us held the desire to help people and took an interest in Mental Health Work and ended up crossing paths in a required course for county certification, Counseling 101. I remember Patrick would come rushing to class and almost considered late every day. Some days he actually made it on time lol. But his late looked different, he looked as if he had been working a labor job all day, work boots and all. He carried a briefcase and what stood out the most was that he would always challenge the professor when it was necessary for the culture. I thought it was a bit disruptive but funny, cute even. Most days Patrick sat right in front of me or on the side of me. One day after class we were on the elevator in the MS building going to the parking garage, and he asked me for my phone number. At the time I obliged only because I was president of the Umoja club on campus and we often had off-campus events so I invited him to our karaoke event. However, nobody showed up other than Kelly the Umoja club VP, Patrick, and I (and Mr. Patrick was clean y’all ☺️) We all hung out in the parking lot for while but eventually, Kelly had to go. Patrick was happy because he knew we had the whole evening ahead of us. We got a bottle of the good stuff ... Hennesy, and went to his place and talked for the rest of the night.. we both realized we had so much in common it was such an amazing night with so much chemistry. Here we are five years later remaining still remaining the best of friends❤️
