Anna and Rom first crossed paths in 2017 when he was her server at a local Italian restaurant. After dinner, she declined dessert, but he expertly suggested just half of a tiramisu. She took him up on this, not knowing that he would eat the other half sitting on a bucket in the kitchen, and certainly not knowing how intertwined their lives would become. They didn't meet again until 2018, when he moved in next door to her. She didn't drive a Honda yet, but her car was a manual - chalk one up for Anna. One evening, music from Fiddler on the Roof drifted through their shared wall - chalk one up for Rom. They both had plants on their windowsills, bikes on their patios, and dogs napping on their beds. She secretly referred to him as “my hot neighbor.” He secretly (but affectionately!) referred to her as Trash Girl after she rescued his discarded shelves from beside the dumpster. The invisible strings connecting the two of them finally began knitting together during the pandemic. At this point, Rom had moved into a one bedroom unit on the same property and Anna had moved - guess where - into Rom’s old studio. Because there was so much free time, Anna committed to running at least a mile a day, which meant walking past Rom’s house, usually around dusk. After a few days of this, Rom committed to hanging out on his patio, also usually around dusk. Naturally, they started chatting. At first, it was just a quick hello, but the conversations grew longer and longer. They evolved into movie nights, trips to the Desert Museum, drives up Mt. Lemmon, and a truly outlandish number of coffees at Dutch Bros. It didn’t take long for the two of them to become inseparable, and they realized that they wanted to share tiramisus for the rest of their lives.
