Romaine is a visionary 28 years old Jamaican man who fears God and loves his family and friends. He holds a Bachelor of Science in Nursing, Summa Cum Laude, from Laboure College and currently works as a Registered Nurse. He loves Rochelle without condition and can't wait to make her his Mrs. Gayle and start their family!
Rochelle is a purpose driven 28 years old Jamaican woman who loves Jesus and invests in her family, friends, career, business and community. She holds a Bachelor of Science in Civil Engineering, Cum Laude, from Northeastern University and works in the Construction Management Industry. She loves Romaine unconditionally and she can't wait to be his Mrs. Gayle!
The academic year started and the Caribbean Student Organization had their kick off meeting at Northeastern University (NU). Rochelle introduced herself to the group then Romaine in his center stitch Clarks made his introduction, but of course he had a disclaimer. "Before mi start, everybody understand Patios?" Of course this caught Rochelle's attention. "Who is this very Jamaican guy wearing Clarks," she thought. After the meeting, some of the members stayed to network. Rochelle and Romaine began to talk and before you knew it they had a connection and were an immediate item. They found common interests in their passion for education and giving back, especially to Jamaica. They conversed for some time before exiting the building with the other members. It was while they were outside Rochelle found out that Romaine was not a student of NU. Romaine was a Nursing student at Labouré College. It was not until March 2011 that Romaine Gayle sent Rochelle a Facebook friend request. But oh wait, it wasn't the Romaine that Rochelle had met or was so excited to talk to. To Rochelle's surprise it was another Romaine Gayle - how odd? Thankfully, a few weeks later THE Romaine Gayle sent Rochelle a Facebook friend's request and viola! Romaine asked Rochelle, "where have you been all my life" and Rochelle responded "waiting for you."
Rochelle had a very long day at work and just when she thought it couldn't get any worse it did. As she opened the parking garage door it hit her toe which started bleeding. Of course she called Romaine and started telling the story, "yuh nah guh believe the kind a day I had...." Romaine reassured her that it will all be fine. Rochelle visited Romaine that same evening and as the aspiring nurse he was at the time, he provided care to her affected toe. Romaine also did something that evening that he rarely does – he cooked .This was a shocker to Rochelle because Romaine never cooked then! After he made dinner, he invited Rochelle to the balcony which was beautifully set with lit candles. Before Rochelle knew it Romaine's brother, Rohan, was downstairs booming love song from his car and "Will You Marry Me Princess?" written on the ground. Rochelle was so astonished and as she turned to look at Romaine he was already on one knee asking for her hand in marriage. Rochelle was speechless and began to shake her head in agreement then She Said YES!
I’m piggybacking off Rochelle’s recollection: Rochelle was obviously shocked by my attempt at dinner (and by no means was this a 5 course meal). It was an honest attempt and we both enjoyed the candle lit meal on the balcony of my Weymouth apartment. The back story behind this is that I had wanted to propose for some time. I had the ring, but couldn’t figure out how to execute the proposal. I chatted with the guys and ultimately made Rohan (brother) and Chana-Kay (Rohan’s gf at the time) the key players in the plan. Rochelle retreated for a nap after the meal and myself, Rohan, & Chana-Kay prepped for the proposal. Chana-Kay, who is excellent at drawing, drew designs and “Will you marry me?” on the roadway off the side of the balcony; Rohan positioned the cars with the beams shining over the street art; and I placed the ring box in the flower pot on the balcony and made sure Rochelle was kept at bay and undisturbed. When everything was in place, I woke Rochelle from her slumber and asked her to join me on the balcony. This was a hard task tbh, but I eventually led her out to the balcony. By this time, music was blasting from the cars and the street art was brightly lit thanks to the high beams from the cars. Rochelle, either through sheer tiredness or lack of suspicion, did not take notice of what was going on below. I slowly turned her in the direction of the setup. As she stood their stunned, tearful, screaming, & in awe, I grabbed the box from the flower pot. I got down on one knee. Rochelle bellowed out more screams as she saw me. “Will you marry me, princess” I asked in a nervous, crackling voice (my heart’s racing, my fingers are trembling, and my throat feels like it’s collapsing in on itself as I’m typing this). This is exactly how I felt when I proposed. It’s euphoric and nerve wracking at the same time. Rochelle said “YES!” She is still saying “YES!” which is why I invite you to celebrate with us as we continue our future in the affirmative.
We are so blessed and humbled to have finally made it to the beginning of a new chapter in our love story. It has truly been a journey with ups and downs but we both wouldn't have it any other way. We have grown to love each other unconditionally and can't wait to get married. After all, "though one may be overpowered, two can defend themselves. A cord of three strands is not quickly broken" --- Ecclesiastes 4:12 NIV
