August 14, 2021

Birmingham, Michigan

How They Met

Matthew and Katherine met the first day of freshman year (2011) as Evans Scholars at the University of Michigan. Matthew had caddied at Knollwood Country Club and Katherine at Oakland Hills. They remained friends freshmen and sophomore year, taking many classes together and attending House events. It wasn’t until junior year when Matthew started working and eating dinners every night with Katherine in the Chi Omega Sorority kitchen that he became more attracted to her beauty, kindness and resilience. It didn’t take long for Katherine to fall for his respectful, playful and patient demeanor, leading them to start dating the first day of senior year (2014).

Their Lives Together

Matthew and Katherine’s love continues to grow. They support each others dreams, each being the rock for the other. Since graduating college, Matthew started his career as an PLM Consultant at LeverX and graduated with this Masters of Computer Science from the University for Michigan. At the same time, Katherine pursued her career at Ford and received her MBA from the Ross School of Business.  Together, they have traveled to Poland, Czech Republic, Austria, Slovakia and Iceland along with countless trips within the US. In their free time, they love to hike, camp and work out together in addition to connecting with friends and family.

The Proposal

Matthew’s proposal to Katherine was from a fairytale. Christmas 2019, he gifted her with a trip to Iceland. Thoughtfully planning around her weekend MBA schedule and minimal vacation time, he packed a two day adventure full of sight seeing on the land of fire and ice. This included bathing in the Blue Lagoon and touristing around the Golden Circle.  After a lovely dinner in Reykjavik, he took her to chase the northern lights in Thingvellir National Park. Upon finding the Aurora Borealis, he pulled over to a secluded rest stop and waited until 12:00am on the palindrome 02/02/2020 before getting down on one knee to propose, making sure to capture the moment with a button controlled tripod. It was the most romantic proposal and Katherine was completely blown away. Matthew truly encapsulated their love for each other in the form of a weekend trip, to ask the most wonderful question to Katherine.

The Next Step

Looking forward to the future, Matthew and Katherine are excited to take the next step together as a married couple. Keeping God at the center of their relationship and prioritize family before everything, they know that many more wonderful adventures await.
