We actually met at Roger's new home! Happy bachelor, doing his own thing, living a full life with friends and hobbies, not seeking to complicate it with a woman. HA! Then I (just doing my job), clomped into his life. He says clomped because that was the sound my heels made on his hardwood floors. Meanwhile, my coworker, Leslie had already texted me the skinny on this Mr. DuBois! "He is from Louisiana, he is tall, he is single FYI, beard, head full of hair, a great bayou accent, really nice guy!" My reply was "Uh oh! I love an accent and hair! Lol!!! Tall too?! I'm done!" Little did I know how true those playful words would become! Fast forward 3 months later when this Mr. DuBois had visited the store a couple of times, but didn't want any more new furniture.... but didn't ask me out either! So, me being the shy girl that I'm not, asked him out! From the very first date it was magical! Roger told me on the second date that he had decided something... He said, "this is worth doing right".
We selected the ring together, but it had to be made, so we decided that I would not see the ring again until he proposed. Each day I would ask, "have you heard anything about the ring?" And he would answer, "not yet." I decided to get my nails in tip top shape for when it happened, this is usually not a priority of mine. So, I am painting them with a french manicure, the most time consuming way, and he asks "how long before those dry?" Me figuring it's getting close to dinner time and we need to cook. Nooooo, he says to me, "we need to raise a toast...to Eula Mae, this would have been her birthday!" (Roger's Mom, July 17th) We toasted her and he said, "she was a very important and special woman in my life." I said, "well no duh, she was your Mom!" Then he said, it's only fitting that I ask the other very important and special woman in my life to marry me on this day. He got down on one knee, opened the box and asked me! I was so overwhelmed with emotion that I started to laugh and cry at the same time (BEST FEELING EVER!!!), but I forgot to answer! He said, "Is that a YES???"
