We Are Getting Married!

They met at a mutual friend’s Christmas party in Taipei in 2014 when Hungwei went back to Taipei during the first winter break of his graduate studies at University of Rochester. Over the next few weeks, they took every opportunity to talk and hang out, trying to better understand each other or just to see each other before Hungwei came back to States. They, at first, didn’t know whether or not a long-distance relationship could work, but they knew the person right in front of each other worth trying so hard. After a long time apart, Rochu got admitted to New York University and luckily Hungwei landed a job in Long Island, so they started living together. However, another year later, Hungwei got a job offer from a company in Seattle and Rochu chose to work in New York City after she graduated. They knew they had to deal with a long-distance relationship again. Now after many miles, countless flights and cross country moves, they eventually settled in First Hill, Seattle where they can be found eating in many lovely coffee shops and restaurants, and snowboarding in ski resorts nearby. Rochu and Hungwei are getting hitched!

After Hungwei accepted a new job in Seattle, he immediately started thinking about proposing to Rochu and wanted to be romantic, innovative and exclusive like a scientist. During the trip to Yellowstone National Park, he carefully planned the proposal with the other two friends who traveled with him and tried to pick a place with minimal light pollution ahead of time. During the trip, they went out every single night and said to Rochu that they were going to capture the Milky Way, but in fact they were also looking for a perfect place for Hungwei to propose. One night, everyone woke up in the middle of the night for the same reason – Milky Way! They ended up finding a platform on the top of a hill. After his friends created the perfect setting under a starry night sky, Hungwei got down on one knee and asked Rochu to marry him. Rochu was too stunned to say anything for a moment, and she started crying when Hungwei talked about places they had been traveled together, difficulties they had been went through together, and things to do together. Until that night, they successfully survived a long-distance relationship for years. Another journey for them is about to start!
