The Wedding Website of Leanna Smith and Rocco Morra
Here are the traditions and their explanations that will be part of our wedding day. While these traditions are deeply meaningful to us, we understand that they will be new for many of our guests! The most important thing to us is that everyone feels comfortable and welcome on our wedding day. Please reach out if you have any questions!

Chuppah

"Canopy"

The chuppah literally translates to "canopy" and symbolizes the home we have created together. It is open on all sides, signifying that friends and family are always welcome.

Circling

7 Circles

Traditionally, the bride would circle the groom seven times, which is an important number in Judaism. Instead, we will each circle one another three times, symbolizing that we are at the center of one another's lives.

Kiddushin

Sanctification

Symbolizes the uniqueness of the Jewish marriage. This is performed over a cup of wine, which is a sign of celebration and the wish that our cup always overflows with joy and sweetness. Rocco and Leanna will exchange an object of value - their wedding bands. Rocco will recite, "with this ring, you are consecrated to me according to the law of Moses and Israel" both in Hebrew and English. Leanna will recite, "I have found the one whom my soul loves."

Ketubah

Marriage Contract

A Jewish marriage contract and license outlining our commitments and promises to one another. We have had this transformed into a beautiful piece of art to display in our home. Signed by the couple and two witnesses, and read aloud in Hebrew and English under the chuppah.

Sheva Brachot

Seven Blessings

Another seven! These blessings express joy and hope for our marriage. We will invite friends and family to recite these blessings in Hebrew, with English translations we have developed ourselves with Rabbi Kalmanofsky. The blessings conclude with another cup of wine for us to share.

Breaking of the Glass

x2

Leanna and Rocco will each step on and shatter a glass. This symbolizes the fragility of human relationships, and is a reminder to us that even in our moments of great joy, we remember that there is immense sadness and suffering in the world, which we are tasked with helping to repair. After we break the glasses, it is customary to shout, "Mazel tov!" which means both congratulations and good luck.

Dinner and Dancing

The Hora!

Instead of starting our reception with a first dance, we will begin with a joyous and spirited Hora! It's very easy, we know you can do it, and if you're ever lost, just join hands with someone and move in a circle. Don't be surprised if we pull you into the center of the circle to dance with us! Here is a video from Tamar and Jake's Hora (amazing friends you will meet). https://www.instagram.com/reel/C_tv8fhSM3L/?utm_source=ig_web_copy_link&igsh=MzRlODBiNWFlZA== (Copy and paste link)
