Robyn and I met informally on a Zoom video call in the fall of 2021 during the height of the pandemic. I thought she was uniquely attractive and interesting. But I dismissed the attraction as general human curiosity. Over the next few months, I saw her on a couple more Zoom calls, and the curiosity remained but I didn’t give it much thought. However, all that would change in June of 2022 when serendipity brought us to the same place and time, at an in-person gala/ball in New Orleans. She wore a sexy, navy-blue version of the simple black dress, and she was absolutely stunning! I found my way over to her table, engaged in some small-talk and I asked her if we could take a selfie. She flashed that beautiful smile and agreed. In that moment something clicked between us. As we chatted the song "Blow the Whistle" by Too Short came on. We laughed and giggled by her surprise that I was able to sing the lyrics!! She flashed that million dollar smile again and I haven’t been the same since. Like Cinderella, after the ball, she returned to Atlanta and I to Detroit. From time to time we would talk on the phone or a Zoom call. But in October of 2022 we found ourselves face to face again at a criminal justice reform conference in Atlanta, GA. After several days of advocacy, canvassing, selfies and interaction, we could no longer deny the strong mutual attraction between us. We decided to profess our desire to get to know each other and to become a couple. We have not parted since and we won't ever again!
