It was Fourth of July weekend, 2023… Like many weekends before, Gavin answered a call to action from his best buddy, Reid. The mission this time: a trip from Minneapolis to Traverse City, Michigan, for a lake weekend at Reid’s girlfriend Kelly’s lake house. Reid promised friends, a boat, unforgettable memories — and casually mentioned that one of Kelly’s cute single friends would be there. The prospect was irresistible and flights were booked… Robyn received the same lake house invite from Kelly. This wasn’t her first Fourth of July bash in Traverse City, and she knew there was no better place to celebrate America’s birthday. She packed her bags and hit the road from Chicago, excited for a weekend with some of her favorite couples — and intrigued by the rumor that there might be a single guy (or two) joining the festivities… Gavin arrived at the lake house first and got his bearings while curiously awaiting Robyn’s arrival. When she walked into the kitchen — fresh off her shift and still in her finest hospital scrubs —Gavin’s jaw nearly hit the floor. He was immediately interested and knew the pursuit had officially begun. After two days of drinking games, boat rides, dance parties, and general lake-house chaos, Gavin and Robyn started to fall for each other. They tried to play it cool, but it became fairly obvious something was brewing, especially when Gavin cooked Robyn breakfast and followed her around like a golden retriever for the remainder of the weekend. As the weekend concluded and they headed back to their separate cities, Gavin got to work figuring out how to keep the momentum going… Robyn didn’t fully expect the holiday romance to continue—but a few weeks later, Gavin booked a trip to Chicago to celebrate his 30th birthday and further “investigate” the Fourth of July connection. The rest is history. They officially started dating and committed to long distance for the next year, both knowing this relationship was something special. Despite Robyn’s love for her life in Chicago, her love for Gavin won out. After 15 years away, she made the move back to Minnesota. In August 2024, they moved in together. Finally in the same city, they got to embrace their favorite things together — traveling, camping, cooking, hiking, restaurant hopping, and farmers market Saturdays. In August 2025, Gavin popped the question in Stillwater, Minnesota. They can’t wait to get married and continue building their beautiful life together.
