It was a warm September night in 2017. Butler’s weekly Cru meeting had transitioned into a large-scale game of Capture the Flag. One team sorted themselves into pairs, one fast person and one slower person. Megan quickly approached a man, asking “Are you fast?” Little did she know, he previously ran on Butler’s cross country and track teams, and was her future husband. Jacob quickly realized that this girl he had met was cute, a Christian, and really nice, so probably worth investigating. He then proceeded to leave at approximately the same time as her from the weekly Cru meeting for several weeks. What a coincidence! Jacob finally worked up the courage to ask Megan on a date, but unfortunately the plan was ruined by the presence of a third person as they left a Christmas party. Therefore, he resorted to DM’ing her over GroupMe, a strategy he has a 100% success rate with and would highly recommend. They went on their first date at a coffee shop, during which Jacob burned his tongue on his first cup of black coffee. Jacob and Megan continued to date throughout college, experiencing many adventures together, such as Butler basketball games, trips to lake houses, and many nights spent tag-team babysitting their ring bearer and flower girl. We now arrive in June 2020. Jacob and Megan have been quarantine buddies for some time. Jacob had recently acquired both a ring and the blessing of Megan’s parents, two key ingredients to a proposal. Jacob then popped the question to Megan on a beach in South Haven, Michigan during a lovely sunset. She quickly said yes, to the delight of some fellow, previously unknown, beachgoers, who provided pictures. Since that special day, we have been greatly enjoying this transitional phase of life, and are excited for what is to come. We are incredibly grateful for all of the love and support we have received from all of you this year and every other year, and can’t wait to celebrate the beginning of our life together with you all.
