How We Met

(From Robin's point of view)

Jarrett knew who I was before I knew who he was. He was friends with one of my best friends (and, now, bridesmaid) and she would send him Snapchats of the two of us acting crazy, dancing, and singing. I had a profile on a dating app, and he ran across it several times over a span of a few months, but never sent me a message until February of 2016. I rarely checked the app, but I happened to get on it the day after he messaged me. The first thing I noticed was his beard and the hard hat he was wearing in his profile picture. I had no idea who he was, he seemed nice enough, but I wasn't actively seeking a relationship at that point, so I almost didn't respond to him. I just happened to show his message and his profile to that very friend who had sent him Snapchats of us, and she immediately told me to message him back, because she knew I would like him. We talked for a few weeks before our first date, on which we went to Joe's Italian and went bowling. Within the next week, we went out another 6 times. From there, we never stopped dating. There was barely any conversation about making it "official," we both just kind of knew that this was where we were supposed to be.

The Proposal

Jarrett met me after work so we could go look for cars. He got out of his truck with a backpack on, which I questioned. He told me that he had a gift for me because our 15 month anniversary was the next day, but I would have to go with him to Railroad Park before he would give it to me. "And it's not an engagement ring, so you can get that out of your head," were his exact words. We left my office and went to a car dealership, test drove a car, chatted with the salesman, and then headed to the park. Parking was nearly impossible because there was a Baron's game that evening. When we finally found somewhere to park that we didn't have to pay $10, we had to walk 3 blocks to get to Railroad Park. We made our way through the park, and stopped at a spot next to the pond. I sat on the bench, and he opened his backpack. Out came "Funshine Bear"- a yellow Care Bear with a sunshine on it. (Side note- our thing is You Are My Sunshine, so it was fitting). As I was admiring the bear, he was pulling out a ring box. Only, at first I didn't know what it was.... because it looked like a pumpkin. It wasn't until he was on his knee and the box was open that I realized what was happening. He asked me to marry him and I had to ask him several times if he was serious. After being fully reassured that he was, in fact, being serious, I stood up and hugged and kissed him. He had to ask me if I was saying yes, because that word hadn't yet made it's way back into my vocabulary. I said it then. The rest of the evening was spent calling friends and family, admiring my gorgeous ring (which was my great grandmother's), and buying a car. Needless to say, I was exhausted by the time I got home that evening. We are so excited to embark on this new adventure, and we are glad that you are joining us. See you on November 4th!
