In late January 2021, when the COVID pandemic was still running rampant, and not all social functions had returned yet, we met on the dating app Bumble. On our first date, we hung out at Derek's apartment in Towson, played Mario Kart and ate snacks, since we basically couldn't do anything else! And from that very low-key, last minute first date, came the best thing that ever happened to either of us!

On August 14th, 2024, on vacation with the Robertsons in the Outer Banks, we got engaged at Jockey's Ridge State Park, overlooking the sunset on the sound side of the island. The scenery was beautiful, and we were met with thunderous applause from the other vacationers who had gathered to watch the sunset. But the real star of the engagement was Hannah's sister Michaela, who had been pretending to be drunk for over an hour so Hannah was focused on making sure her sister was alright, and not on Derek and his nervousness. And in the end, it couldn't have gone any better, because Hannah said yes!
