Chris had been living in Washington state for two years by the time Whitney arrived in January 2020 after taking a leap of faith for a dream job across the country. Within months, Covid-19 shut everything down, and what do two single people do when suddenly presented with seemingly endless amounts of time to kill at home? Browse the dating apps of course. One of the first messages Chris and Whitney shared was of pleasant surprise to find out they not only both grew up playing competitive soccer, but were both lifelong goalkeepers! The odds! After a couple of shockingly not-so-awkward Zoom dates over take-out sushi, they decided it was time to meet in person. So they grabbed a couple of soccer balls and met at a local park, and as the saying goes... the rest is history!
As many know, Whitney went to high school in Augusta, Georgia, and her first high school job was working a concession stand at the Augusta National Golf Tournament (or "The Masters"). In 2025, Chris had the opportunity to attend the Masters with Whitney's family and it took -0.05 seconds for him to say duh! And of course, Whitney was excited to show him her hometown for the first time. She had an intuitive feeling that 2025 would be the year he proposed, but she had no idea that would be the weekend. From seeing Rory McIlroy and Justin Rose head-to-head in the play-off mere feet away, to spending quality time with friends and family, they couldn't have asked for a better weekend (even before the proposal). On the morning of the day they were set to leave, Whitney suggested they go for a run along the Savannah Riverfront. Chris uncharacteristically declined and insisted they just *walk*... okay? As they walk along the river, they naturally begin discussing life and dreams for the future, and right as they pass a waterfall, Chris gets down on one knee. Needless to say, Whitney said yes!
