Travel tips for San Miguel de Allende

Here are some smart travel tips to make the most of your visit: ✈️ GETTING THERE - Closest Airports: Fly into either Querétaro (QRO) or León (BJX). Both are about 1.5 hours away by car. We recommend flying to Leon (BJX) as it is the larger airport of the two and offers more flexible transportation options to SMA. For guest attending from the Los Angeles area, consider flying out of Tijuana International Airport (TIJ) via the San Diego CBX crossing. TIJ airport offers the most convenient and affordable flight options to travel to either BJX or QRO airport. It’s easy to traverse the U.S.-Mexico border between San Diego and Tijuana via the Cross Border Xpress (CBX), an enclosed pedestrian bridge in San Diego that connects TIJ passengers directly to and from their flights. - Ground Transport: Pre-book a shuttle or private car service to take you to and from SMA, it’s more convenient than renting a car, unless you plan on exploring outside of the SMA. Parking can be tricky in SMA, so if you rent a car, we recommend booking accommodations that offer parking. 🏨 WHERE TO STAY - Central is Best (Zona Centro): Choose accommodations near El Jardín, the main square, for easy access to restaurants, shops, and landmarks. The wedding will be in the Centro. 🧳 WHAT TO PACK - Layers: Days are warm, but evenings can get chilly. - Comfortable Shoes: The cobblestone streets are beautiful but unforgiving on feet. 💡 PRO TIPS - Preferred payment is cash, Mexican pesos. There are many banks that will exchange dollars to pesos. Credit cards are widely accepted in restaurants, make sure your card has no international fees. - Tipping: 15% is standard at restaurants. - Make sure your passport is not about to expire. Give yourself at least 6 months before the expiration date.
