December 30, 2020, Carmel, Indiana, The Pint Room. A first date full of conversation, food, and drinks. After meeting online and chatting for a little while, we finally met in person for our first date. Since we had talked for a bit, we didn't feel like it was a typical first date, we just jumped right in!
Around Thanksgiving, I entered a “Wedding Giveaway” contest on Instagram. Robert and I had talked about getting married (and even picked out a ring!) but I never thought we would really win. Well, FAST FORWARD to Christmas when I open an email that says the Wedding Giveaway is looking for another couple to have their wedding at their venue, and we were selected! We couldn’t believe it. After talking it over together and with our families, we decided to do something spontaneous – let’s get married! So, after winning a wedding, telling our loved ones, setting a date, and making a list of vendors to contact, there was only one thing left to do… get engaged. I suspected Robert had bought a ring. I KNEW Robert had bought a ring. And I kept anticipating when he was going to ask. Would he ask while we were out with friends? During the Indy Fuel game? At dinner alone together? He was carrying it around in his pocket, why didn’t he just ask me already!! On January 22, we had a dinner reservation at 1933 Lounge. I, maybe a little too nervous and excited, got ready an hour too early. Hungry and ready, I asked Robert if we could just go to dinner early. Laughing at my impatience, he got down on one knee and asked me right there in our living room. Though he had originally planned to ask me at the restaurant, he was a little relieved to just do it together, at home, in a moment that felt very much like “us”. And just like that, we were engaged.
