Emmett was a student at the Child Development Center where Claire worked as the Director. One early morning when Robert dropped Emmett of at school, Emmett somehow locked the doors while trying to climb out of the truck. As cold as it was that morning, Robert decided to leave the truck running to keep it warm. As soon as the doors closed, that's when it started. Out of the goodness in her heart, and despite the schools COVID policies, Claire invited Robert to come inside and use her phone to call his office and AAA since his phone was locked in the truck outside. While he waited, conversation struck about where they both lived and where they were from. When Jacksonville was mentioned, Robert knew there was something there. Once it was clarified that she was talking about Jacksonville NC, Robert started asking if she remembered places he used to go as a child and things he used to do. After about an hour of chatting, they both realized that as they were growing up, they must of crossed paths at some point during their childhoods. Robert's grandparents lived about a half a mile from were the Autry's lived, both families went to church across the street from one another, their parents graduated form the same high school a few years apart, and if you were a local, you knew the good ole' Fisherman's Warf was the hang out spot and a great place to eat. A few weeks later, Pineville had their Fall festival. Robert took Emmett there for a fun day of bounce houses and junk food. Knowing that Claire lived in Pineville, he was kind of hoping they would run into Claire while they were there, but to his disappointment, they did not. When Monday rolled around, Emmett told Claire all about their weekend fun at the Festival. Come to find out they had missed each other by all of 15 minutes. As a last minute attempt to try and get to know Claire a little bit more, he offered her 2 pilsner glasses and a gift card to the brewery she used frequent. There must of been some positive miscommunication, because her response to the offer was "Absolutely, we can go there this weekend!" And from there, it's history....
