According to Bern, we "probably met in Annenberg", accompanied by an easy shrug. A tough hit for Robert's ego, because he knew exactly when and where we met: at a social in Adams dining hall on the first night of our college pre-freshman program, a week before we ever set foot in Annenberg. To make up for it, a year later Robert forgot Bern's birthday... even though it was the exact same day as his.
Bern had spent the last 8 weeks studying for Step 1 and had just taken the test that Friday. That night, the two went to Clavel for dinner and celebratory margaritas. After returning home, the two were hanging out and chatting about the day when Robert pulled out a small red box and dropped down to one knee. Before he had finished asking "Will you marry me?", Bern had already cut him off to exclaim "YES!!"
Surrounded by our parents and local friends under a beautiful tree (which Bernadette carefully selected) in Patterson Park in Baltimore, we made our eternal vows to each other on our originally planned wedding date. While not what we had initially envisioned, it was perfect nonetheless.
