What is “Polterabend”?

Answer

Polterabend is a traditional German pre-wedding event. It includes dinner and music and the key attraction, plate smashing! The plate smashing is thought to bring good luck to the couple such that they will not fight in marriage. Bring any porcelain or ceramic to break (it need not be plates) but no glass as breaking glass is seen as bad luck.
