We knew each other vaguely as we were in the same school for most of K-12. But the day specifically that began it all was a summer day at an iron pigs game. My grandmother had gotten my whole family tickets to see the game and we actually ended up having two extra seats. I went to go and get a snack on the break time and recognized Robert and his brother, Ryen, sitting on a bench. I asked what they were doing there and why they were on the bench. He told me someone had stolen their blanket and they didn’t have seats!! I told him I had two extra spots and insisted they come take them and enjoy them. We spent the whole rest of the game chatting with each other; My family joked about how we clicked right away right then. After that we became closer and closer until he finally asked me to be his girlfriend.
We decided to go back to an iron pigs game from the first day we started being friends. We were there with a bunch of friends and enjoying the game when Robert said he was going to go get some snacks etc. I was sitting there for a good while and started to get worried. Eventually he finally came back!! At which time he gave me a baseball with some writing on it. To which it read, “will you be my official girlfriend?” And I said yes of course! Here we are 6 years later.
We had been planning to go visit our friend in NC on Labor Day weekend which also happened to be our 6th anniversary weekend; it was going to be a nice mini vacation. We had plans to go see the sunrise and a lighthouse. So we got up at 3:30am on a Sunday, drove an hour to the boat launch and launched the boat in the dark! We had a 45 minute or so ride out to the island(cape lookout), and eventually anchored the boat to the beach. We got off the boat and walked over to the other side of the island where we could see the sun starting to peep out from behind the clouds. We set up a spot and walked into the water and hung out with the waves crashing at our feet. About a half hour in the sun was up and it was officially sunrise. Robert asked our friends to take some sunrise photos of us with the gorgeous backdrop. Next thing I know he’s getting onto one knee and asking me to marry him! I said YES of course and we enjoyed the rest of the beautiful sunrise on the beach. We even saw dolphins jumping out of the water right by the beach!
