When Robbie finished nursing school he quickly began searching for the perfect ring to give to Vanessa. He went to the jeweler and had ideas and selected the ring without having a clue that engagement rings needed to have a specific size. He ordered the ring and then contacted Jess Croll to try to figure out Vanessa's ring size. Robbie asked Vanessa's parents permission for their daughter's hand in marriage at Thanksgiving and after a months of waiting for the ring to be crafted the wait was over. It was a Friday and Vanessa was wanting to come down to Louisville early. Robbie knew that if Vanessa was in town he would not be able to go get the ring without her knowing about it, so he told her to just come down after work. That night they went to Morton's Steakhouse and after indulging in a fantastic meal Vanessa was standing up to leave. Robbie grabbed her hand and told her to sit down. He got down on one knee and fumbled through a proposal that he forgot most of the rehearsed words to. Vanessa accepted and they left the restaurant with a lifelong memory and place to revisit.
