FAQs

Question

What should I wear?

Answer

You are welcome to dress casually, if you would like to participate with our theme, think 50s-style or “non-goth rockabilly” (I Love Lucy, Buddy Holly, Early Elvis Presley, etc.) Chuck Taylor’s are perfectly appropriate. The Bridesmaids will be wearing black and white polka-dot dresses, the groomsmen in black slacks and bowling shirts that are white with black accents & buttons. We do ask that you obey local statutes when choosing your ensemble and if your pants tend to fall off when you’re dancing, wear good draws and suspenders.

Question

Can I bring my children?

Answer

Why not, we’re bringing ours? Yes, you can bring your children, but we ask that they run around, touch things, scream occasionally and dance. If they sulk, it’s fine too. Childcare and supervision will not be provided, but we’ll be watching you. There will be two rooms, one with the band/music and another room with tables set up, although the “quieter” room has a great echo for screams we ask that you try to steer your children to the room with the band.

Question

Can I bring a date?

Answer

Yes, but even if there will be several duly appointed ministers in attendance, we ask that you not get married in the middle of our service. If you do bring a license however, something might be arranged for the latter parts of the reception. Dates are fine, but please, “dance with the one that brung ‘ya.” And we ask that you see them home safely.

Question

Is there going to be food?

Answer

As of right now, yes, we plan on light appetizers and desserts.

Question

What’s the bar situation?

Answer

The church leadership has agreed to allow us to have a bar, but we're still researching the county requirements in order to have such a thing - stay tuned for more information.

Question

Where can I stay?

Answer

There are several options available at this time, but we ask if you’re planning on staying overnight (either Friday or Saturday) that you book well in advance. Those are available on this website, linked because TJ knows how to do that and is willing to take the time to be helpful.

Question

Where can I eat in town?

Answer

If you’re in the mood for good Chinese food, I suggest the Paradise something in Paris (about 40 minutes away). If you’re in the mood for fast-food there are a plethora of options, there is also a Lee’s Famous Chicken. For Mexican, Don Senior’s (which I believe is Spanish for Mister-Mister – Kyrie Eliason down the road that you must travel) or Los Rodeo’s (which is not my first rodeo). For Indian food, I suggest Lexington, and for Vietnamese I would suggest Cincinnati. Keep in mind, we have a Krystal, not a White Castle, and Chik-fil-A, Popeyes, etc. have yet to discover the beauty of Mount Sterling. We do have a Cattleman’s Road House, Applebee’s, KFC, Wendy’s, Mc.D’s, Hardees, Arby’s, DQ, Steak n’ Shake, Cracker Barrel… lots of chain-based options (if you’re going to do that, hit the Waffle House).

Question

Local Fare?

Answer

Berryman’s Tastytreat (on E. Main downtown) is good for hot dogs and Ale 8 with, interestingly enough, some added tasty treats. Fire and Tomato is a brick-oven pizza place (also downtown) that has some other dishes and seems to be favored among younger business people and beardy-types. The Indian Creek Restaurant is where a lot of church groups eat (at the “Old Indian Creek Country Club” now public, they have a wide variety of foods (Catfish, Cajun Shrimp, Pork Chops, avoid the Sheep Fries) – many clubs in the church meet there. Melini Cucina is not Italian chef level, but Italian mom good place for simple pastas without anything remotely called “fusion.” I’ve been there many times – and left with a box every time
