The story begins with a family tradition. Towards the end of the summer, one of Rob’s grandmothers, Bunny, plans out a day for her family to take a party bus to Ravinia, an outdoor music venue in Highlad Park, IL. Shelby had missed out on the first trip in 2019, as they had not yet began dating officially, but this year there was no way she would be missing out on this one. Rob had big plans for this trip that would change the paths of their lives indefinitely. Now Rob had been methodically throwing Shelby off guard for quite some time now with subtle hints indicating that there was no hurry to get married, although it had been discussed before. “We both know we want to marry each other so there’s no rush”… “We have things that we want to save up for that need to come first”… “5 or 10 years down the road when we decide to get married…”. These are some of the things he had been telling her at home or when they were out and about with friends or family. What you may or may not know about Shelby, is that she is VERY clever, and even more intuitive. This left Rob with zero room to slip up. Timing was key, but he did not know where or when to “pop the question”. Rob’s brother, Evan, had suggested proposing at Ravinia. He had just then realized, what better place to propose than while being surrounded by his family, right?! With very little time left, he quickly contacted a few of his family members and made the arrangements needed to ask Shelby to marry him while at the festival. The party bus was a blast! Party lights, dance music, and positive energy the entire way to Ravinia. The bus packed was full of family, close friends, an unsuspecting bride-to-be, and one very nervous man who was trying to keep his cool. Once they arrived, evereyone walked over to their designated area and got themselves comfortable. Rob did not want to waste any more time, as his nerves were on edge. As soon as everyone had settled down, he began to tell them the story about the first time the family went to Ravinia. Rob and Shelby weren’t dating yet, but they were messaging back and forth with texts and “Snapchats” while secretly he wishes Shelby could have been there with him. Fast forward 2 years and here they are together at Ravinia, dating, living together, planning their future together. He said he wanted to spend the rest of his days with her, and asked her to marry him. Shelby, completely surprised, smiled and with joyousness said YES. As they were surrounded by cheers and applause, it was at that moment history was made.
