We first met at Bible study, after I noticed he hadn’t shown up during my first few weeks there, even though I knew he was a regular. One of the first things I asked him was, “Is pole vaulting hard?” and from there we spent a few weeks subtly flirting. He finally asked for my number to add me to a volleyball group chat, but we ended up texting long after that. After I suggested we hang out sometime, he asked me on a date to Meiji, where we talked over sushi for two hours before spending two more hours walking and getting to know each other.
