The Moment That Almost Past...

Once upon a time in the LBC, two strangers decided to meet after weeks of playing online tag on a popular dating app. Sitting at the dimly lit bar inside Cal Bowl, talking about life and everything in between, a friendship began to spark — though neither of them wanted to admit it could become more. At the time, both agreed that dating was not the right move. LaChelle was busy balancing motherhood, raising her son, and managing a demanding career, leaving little time for herself — let alone anyone else. While the idea of love sounded beautiful, she knew she still needed time to heal, grow, and rediscover herself beyond the weight of her past. Ironically, the night they met was supposed to mark the end of her online dating era — not because she thought she had found “the one,” but because she was exhausted from connections with people who could not accept where she was in life or offer the patience she needed. To her surprise, one final swipe right led her to someone calm, understanding, and willing to meet her exactly where she was. Javan was equally busy navigating life. Between managing a large team, coaching high school basketball, and training athletes, he finally decided to step outside of his comfort zone and see what — or who — might be waiting for him. Just as he was ready to give up on the idea altogether, he sent one last message, and before the night ended, a reply came through. After an easy and genuine conversation, a date was set. From that moment, Jay felt there was something different about LaChelle. Still, never one to rush into anything, he believed time, consistency, and friendship would reveal whatever was meant to be. And so, their friendship grew. Random texts turned into meaningful conversations. Small gestures became intentional acts of care. Long talks, shared laughter, prayers, encouragement, and simply showing up for one another slowly built a bond neither of them expected. Even while insisting they were “just friends,” it became impossible to ignore that something deeper was unfolding between them. As the world slowly reopened after COVID, so did their hearts. What began as friendship quietly became love, and eventually, it was time for both of them to finally embrace what their hearts had known all along: sometimes the best love stories begin when two people are not looking for love, but are prepared for it when it arrives.
