Maor and Rebecca both started attending Camp Ramah in the Berkshires in summer 2004. Maor was 9 and Rebecca was 8. Rebecca didn't talk to boys. They were not friends...yet.
Rebecca continued going to camp through Gesher (2004-2011). She also went on seminar (summer in Israel) and spent two years on staff. Maor and Rebecca still weren't friends, although Rebecca knew who Maor was. Maor also spent his summers at camp through 2017, although at multiple Ramahs. Go Palmer Roos!
As they got older, they became aware of each other's existence. Rebecca actually visited WashU for a prospective student weekend in 2013, and met up with freshman Maor. He was nice and showed her a great time on campus.
But ... it wasn't until a Berkshires alumni reunion, Labor Day Weekend in 2017, when they reconnected and really hit it off. They remember competing in spikeball during Shabbat, playing beer pong, ninja with glowsticks, and dancing at the party Saturday night. Rebecca left early the next morning for a TAMID event (conference). Classic!
After that, they saw each other a few times but weren't sure it was practical to date given their long distance, Michigan to NYC. After an afternoon of apple picking around Thanksgiving, Rebecca decided to go out on a whim and invite Maor to fly in for her sorority date party! Maor went, had a great time, and that marked the beginning of their relationship.
As some know, Rebecca travels to CT for work 2 times a week (2.5h each way, she's a champ). One day while she was gone, Maor turned 717 Carroll into Chez-Maor - a fancy restaurant that serves meatballs. Chef Maor stepped in for his first at bat at cooking meat and apparently hit it out of the park... because she said yes!!! Did he or did he not hide the ring in some tasty marinara?? Stay tuned to find out... Probs no.
