We met through mutual friends while both of us were attending culinary school. We went out to a dinner and movie as a large group and we knew there was a connection from the moment he threw popcorn at me during the show. It took less than a couple weeks for us to make things official, and there has been no looking back since!
We were planning a trip to Puerto Rico as our first big trip alone together. Most of the time we travel to see family, and don't get to have 1on1 time. We were very excited to go on this trip, but the week before we were set to leave a disaster in the form of a hurricane devastated Puerto Rico. It was not safe for us to travel down there, but we were able to make some last minute changes and fly to San Diego, CA instead. Needless to say, I was very stressed with all the last minute changes and got a little heated about finalizing our plans. Nick looked fine and not worried at all (as usual which made me even more upset that he wasn't as upset as me). He said that he had something that would make me feel more at ease, and pulled out the ring. He wanted to make me feel less anxious, but said that he did have a great plan to propose while at the San Diego zoo. I love zoos and he wanted to propose there. I asked him what his plan was; and with a grin on his face he said, "I was going to wait until we were by the Otter enclosure and then say "YOU OTTER MARRY ME."
