FAQs

Question

What happens during a Sikh wedding ceremony?

Answer

Our wedding ceremony is called the Anand Karaj, which takes place in a Gurdwara. During the ceremony, we will walk around the Guru Granth Sahib Ji four times while sacred hymns are sung, symbolizing our spiritual union and commitment to one another.

Question

Do I need to cover my head in the Gurdwara?

Answer

Yes. All guests, regardless of gender, must cover their heads inside the Gurdwara as a sign of respect. Scarves will be available at the entrance, but you are welcome to bring your own.

Question

Are there any clothing guidelines for the ceremony?

Answer

Guests are encouraged to wear formal or semi-formal attire. Colorful outfits are welcome and many guests choose to wear traditional South Asian clothing, but Western formal attire is also perfectly appropriate. Because the ceremony takes place in a religious space, we kindly ask guests to avoid very revealing clothing (such as very short skirts or low-cut tops). You will also need to cover your head inside the Gurdwara.
