Alex and I met and quickly joined the same friend group during our first year of medical school at Florida State in Tallahassee, Florida. Although we were just friends at the time, I appreciated his goofiness and lightheartedness amidst the stressors of our demanding schedule. Little did I know that in our group of aspiring doctors, I would find the person who would later become my husband! After two years in Tallahassee, we moved to Sarasota, Florida, to complete our clinical rotations. Alex quickly heard that my relationship status had changed to "single" and asked me to dance at our best friends' wedding. I, of course, thought it was a nice gesture as friends, but surely nothing more than that. In the following weeks, Alex asked me to hang out multiple times, but to his surprise, I would show up with other friends, making it a "group activity." After a few patient attempts, he finally convinced me to go on an exclusive date to the Ringling Museum in Sarasota. From there, the transition from friends to something more felt like a natural progression as we enjoyed numerous dates together on the beautiful Gulf Coast. A year and a half later, Alex surprised me with a proposal at the Ringling Museum (the same spot where we had our first date) followed by a surprise engagement party at a rooftop restaurant overlooking the water. Last year, Alex and I moved to Nashville, Tennessee, to begin our residency training at Vanderbilt. Although Floridians at heart, we have loved every second of exploring this new city together!
