Emily and Sam met on Tinder, but the first time they saw each other in person, was when Sam came to the Macon County Health Department (where Emily was working at the time) to get tested for Covid. After 2 weeks (!!!) waiting for the test results, which were negative, they finally went on their first date. They talked for hours about Sam's experience living in Tonga while serving in the Peace Corp, Emily's passion for health advocacy, and a shared love for all things politics. After dating several months and while Sam was at grad school in Chapel Hill, they could not stop thinking about the other and began the several hour commutes on weekends for visits. They would continue to do this for 2 more years, before finally both landing jobs in the federal government in the DC area. They now live in Maryland just outside of DC with their two dogs, Willow (little) and Abby (big), and their two cats Butterscotch and Mocha.
