I remember the first time we met. Paul’d say he spotted my smile first, before gaining the nerve to cross the street from Walgreens that day, but I saw nada. Just so happened it was my birhday & a friend & I had taken the bus from our dorms toward the hotels, checking rates. I see this tall handsome guy walking, seems like towards my friend and I. He surprised me by talking to us, introducing himself, asking for my name as he politely shook both our hands. He seemed to be focussed on me, but..anyway, we got his number, exchanged “nice to meet you”s, then handsome gentleman went his way, we went ours. We went to the river, enjoyed sunshine/water waiting for another friend, met her and wandered Reno a bit. But when we left the bus stop we had been checking schedules at, I realized I didnt have my purse, and of course, everything was in it. We went back, asked around, it was gone. We had a few dollars collectively and decided it’d be best to call off the night and use them for the bus. But, with bravery I can’t explain now, I asked my friend to call him. “Who?” she asked. “The guy we met today. Maybe he’d help?” My friends looked at eachother, shrugged, and dialed. He answered. I got nervous and immediately shoved the phone into my friend’s hands. She told him what was happening, he said “go into a restaurant and wait in a well lit area,” we did. He arrived, apologized to me about my purse, my friend blurted out “It’s her birthday ya know.” -before I knew it he bought us all dinner! We stayed up talking all night, then, when my gf’s finally fell asleep, I did it: I kissed him! Magic! He told me he’d had the best time and had better get going as the sun was coming up. I stopped him with another kiss & he invited me to join him for coffee. 4 weeks later, I told him I was in love. Our story has only grown since, as 2 years after that we decided to start a family and 9 months later Kiara was born. Can’t wait!
