Travel and Accommodation

The Wedding Website of Rita Scamurra and Jordan Street
We're tying the knot in Bristol, where Jordan’s parents live. This lively city, known for its maritime history and creative spirit, offers the perfect mix of historic charm and modern energy. We've detailed below how best to travel to Bristol, directly from the States, or via London. In the UK, dates are written in the day-month-year format (e.g., 31/01/2024), unlike the month-day-year format in the United States. Please keep this in mind when booking accommodations.

Travel Note

Flights to London

There are three major airports in London. Don’t worry about the other two, Heathrow is all you need to know.

Flight

Flights to Bristol (via Dublin)

Yes, you can fly to Bristol. But probably not directly. Dublin is just a 45 minute flight away, you’ll probably stopover over there. Aer Lingus can be expensive, but it’s very convenient to land in Bristol if you can.

Rental Car

Rent a car?

England, United Kingdom

If you want to drive on the right (left) side of the road, you can drive from Heathrow to Bristol in about two hours. It’s an easy drive on the motorway (read: highway). Heathrow has many rental car options:

Travel Note

Coach from London Heathrow

Don’t fancy driving? Don’t fancy going into Central London first? Get the National Express Coach (this means a bus)! It’s direct to Bristol, and a very decent price. It's way nicer than a Megabus or the Greyhound. If booking in advance, book a coach between 90 - 120 minutes after you're scheduled to land to be on the safe side.

Train

Take the train

The train from Central London to Bristol is 75 minutes (when it’s running). Maybe by the time of the wedding the British Railway will be fixed anew, but there are often delays. To get to Paddington from Heathrow, you need to take the Elizabeth Line (in the direction of Abbey Wood). It’s 7 stops, and takes approximately 25 minutes. You can pay for the underground with your contactless credit card, Google or Apple Pay - no need to queue to buy a ticket from the machine. In London we tap in, and then tap out. There are two train stations on the national rail line in Bristol. Bristol Temple Meads is in the City Center and Bristol Parkway is North East of the city (closer to London). Depending on where you are staying, either might make sense. The price difference is negligible. If taking the train from Paddington to Bristol Temple Meads or Bristol Parkway, it pays to book a train in advance. Tickets on the day are extortionate. Booked a few weeks out will give you good deals.

Train

Get a Railcard for cheaper travel

You can get even better deals if you buy a Railcard (usually $30) you can get a third off all tickets. Railcards can be for 16-25 year olds, 26-30 year olds, two people travelling together (the aptly named ‘Two Together’ railcard), and for Seniors (60 and above). Most likely if you take just two trips (there and back), you will save money by getting a railcard. All tickets and railcards can be electronic on your phone.
