It's All About Love
Years ago we met at New Faith Baptist Church, we were married, but not to each other. We worked on a committee together and simply respected each other. Years later, our marital status had changed and we became Facebook friends admiring each other’s post. Drew posted flowers and scriptures, his homemade meals and early early, like 4 a.m walks along the river and classroom and university posts with students and faculty.Rita posted some of everything from words of wisdom to upcoming events with her work as a television director, garden and food shots and shots from the golf course. It was a romance that started during the pandemic when one day Drew was singing a song he learned at New Faith, Lord Send Your Anointing and Rita noticed a side by side photo of Drew from his New Faith Days when he was 70 pounds heavier. From “hey, I know you,” it all began. Drew looked at Rita’s photo and remembered Rita at New Faith with two children (Lee and Christine) always by her side. Drew and Rita started talking and talked everyday for over a month, then finally met for dinner at LaVoute in Homewood. Neither knew they would visit La Voute almost 2 years later to become engaged. Rita, you are a good woman, kind, fearless, faithful and you make me laugh. Everything that hurt inside me has been healed by your love. Drew, your kind, protective spirit, the fact that you love God, listen to God saying, “I’m just a good man, trying to become a better man,” is your superpower. I am so much stronger because you are by my side. One day we both realized that ever since we reconnected we always talked. We talked through our hurts, our fears and always landed on kindness. We talked from Drew's early morning, when it is really to dark to be outside, 4 a.m. walks, until it was light outside. We talked through Rita's in a hotel in another state, trying to work with a crew and stolen laptop kerfunkles. We talked through our misunderstandings, we talked until we couldn't understand how the hours would go by if we couldn't talk. We talked about growing up and growing older. Drew talked Rita to sleep and Rita talked Drew awake. We talked when we felt sick and talked when we felt healthy. We talked until we felt healed and delivered from our past into our present. We talked about the future. We beat Chatty Kathy by a New York mile. We realized how much we wanted to be present for each other. On May 12th we were there for each other when Willie E. Coburn went home to be with God, Jesus and the Holy Spirit. We understand richer or poorer, sickness and in health and decided we want to be there for each other for the death do us part part. And we believed that we could make each others life enjoyable until then. We thank God that we are becoming emotionally mature and as we mature together, we answer the need in each other for love, friendship, romance and all the fruits of the spirit. The fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness, self-control; against such things there is no law. Galatians 5:22-23. So we ask you to take this journey with us. To love us and let us love you. To respect our lives as we respect yours. To be a part of our family in love. To watch our videos because It's All About Love (video on this Home page) and we really do Send Each other (video on the Gallery page). God Bless you and your friends and family. Let's make this the best of all possible worlds. Please don't forget to rsvp!
