Her Story

November 11, 2016

Her story: After years of swiping right, only to find Mr. wrong, I stumbled across the profile of a beautiful Indian man who caught my interest. I made the first real courageous move and commented on his picture (brave, right?). He seemed sweet and had a picture of him hugging a dog, which gave him bonus points. We had mutual friends in common who seemed to think he was a catch, so we set up a date. Meet cute (the in person one): We had bagels. I thought he was handsome, but WAY too cool for me. He was wearing nice sunglasses and a fancy watch and had a cool and collected demeanor. As he will tell you (and probably has many times), I asked him a standard first date type of question that apparently stood out in his mind (to me, this question seemed VERY normal). He didn’t contact me for about a week and I recall having a glass (es) of wine with a friend and swearing to write off all men who “didn’t show enough interest”. He reached out the next day, I agreed without hesitation and the rest is HIS STORY (see below, pun intended).

His Story

It was the second week of November 2016 and I had just come back from a three week trip to India where Kelsey and I first made a connection through one of the best inventions during our lifetime.... dating apps. She would later tell me that the thing she appreciated most about our online exchanges was how often I used her name (take that one to the bank boys!). Exhausted by an emotional trip to India, Trump’s recent victory and one too many whiskey sours the night before, I dragged myself out of the house to give this online dating thing just “one more shot." We met for bagels and amidst my enjoyment of the copious amounts of cream cheese they provided, Kels proceeds to ask a super casual, first date question: “so, what was it like growing up as an Indian American?”. Despite my initial surprise at the depth of the question for a “Sunday morning, grab a bagel type of first date”, it was what made her different from all the rest. #frombagelstobaegoals
