Wedding Update

Love IS patient, but we didn’t want to let this crazy year to stop us from starting our lives together. We had a small, intimate ceremony with our immediate family on October 10, 2020, and look forward to having our larger wedding celebration to October 10, 2021 with all our friends and family!

How We Met

Julia’s Version

“Are we actually going to ski, or just talk about it?" These are the first words I ever heard Marc say - swoonworthy, right?? We were on a ski trip in Mammoth with mutual friends, and I had gotten to the cabin late the night before so he hit the slopes much earlier than me. And I guess he wasn't a fan of discussing our ski plans NEXT TO the lift line...when we could have been IN the lift line. ;) He was dating someone and I was being set up with someone else on the trip, so we parted ways and occasionally ran into each other over the next few months. Fast-forward to TWO WEEKS before he deployed, when he decided to ask me on our first date. I was not expecting it, but said yes and had a great time. He left for seven months and I figured I'd see him when he got back. For the first few months, he emailed occasionally, but I was pretty unresponsive - until around Christmas, when I finally sent him a message and so it began! After several months and 150 pages of emails, and I was SO nervous for him to come back. He flew in from deployment and we immediately went on our second date at the same place we went on the first...and the rest is history! He may not have made the best first impression, but fast forward 3 years, a first date & second date seven months apart, months of emails halfway across the world, and one cross-country move…and here we are, with forever to go!

How We Met

Marc’s Version

Julia and I met on the ski slopes at Mammoth. Everyone in our group was standing around (next to the already long lift line) talking about what trails we should take, when we were going to meet for lunch, etc. I believe the first words she ever heard me say were, “Are we actually going to ski today or just talk about it?” so I can’t say that she was immediately drawn to me, but I definitely noticed her. A few months later, Julia and I ran into each other out in Pacific Beach. After a lot of convincing, she agreed to go on one a date with me. There was only one problem – I had a looming seven-month deployment coming up. Despite all this, she agreed to go out with me. We had a wonderful time (at least I think we did) and were able to see each other a few more times before I left. I left her with my email and asked her to email me while I was on deployment. She never did… A few weeks into deployment, we pulled into Guam and I was able to get enough cell phone service to text her. She pretty much shot me down but gave me her email address anyway. Over the next few months, I would send her short emails saying hi or copy her on my monthly updates to friends and family about how deployment was going. Around Christmas time (and with a little convincing from our friend Brooke) she started to email me back. Our conversations gradually grew from short conversations into long and serious emails. I asked her to go on another date with me when I returned, and the rest is history.

How He Asked

Our Relationship Re-Lived

Over Christmas when we were visiting my home in San Diego, Marc planned a special day reliving our relationship – from coffee with the friend that introduced us, to lunch where we had our first date, to the bay where we had our first kiss, to the resort we frequented for fireside dinners and drinks, to the boardwalk where we always watched the sunset, to the beach where he first told me he loved me – and where he then asked me to spend the rest of my life with him! And he even had a dinner planned with my friends to celebrate! His favorite part is that I thought I had planned the whole day, but it turns out all of my friends were instructed to be free at certain times to coincide with his plan. I was oblivious until he was down on one knee – so sneaky, and SO SWEET!!!
