Our journey has been weird and wonderful, and we wouldn’t have it any other way. Although we both majored in Industrial Design at the University of Cincinnati, we first met at Hasbro in Pawtucket, Rhode Island in 2016, working on the same design team. Matt thought Rinn was Super Hot™, and decided to throw a party so he would have an excuse to invite her and get to know her better. Unfortunately, Rinn was already deeply mired in a relationship, but they hit it off as friends, talking late into the night about movies and favorite tv shows. Fortunately, Rinn’s existing relationship was ill-fated, and by the turn of the year new conversations between the two of us would flow, this time with a more romantic tone. From the very first conversation, there was an ease to our talks that neither of us had experienced before, and as we continued to get to know each other, we both realized that we didn’t want to be with anybody else.
Although we were dating long-distance between Cincinnati and Providence, we realized we were taking our relationship more seriously than we had initially expected. After spending only two weekends together over the course of several months, we decided to move in together during Rinn’s final internship in Rhode Island. In those four months, we learned how to create a space together and for each other, we hosted our first “cartoon parties”, and Matt discovered the joys of cat parenting. We discovered that Matt likes cleaning and hates cooking, and Rinn likes cooking and hates cleaning; one of many ways in which we were compatible! Years later, after a move to Los Angeles, a pandemic (or the “Non-Canon Years” as Rinn likes to say), and establishing a new home together on the West Coast, we realized that we were both ready to take the next step in our journey, and get married!
As we talked more about getting married, we realized we should probably get engaged first (PEMDAS and all). Throughout our relationship we had always prioritized making decisions together, and taking steps forward as a team. So, we decided to propose to each other! We began by designing our own rings, and choosing Rhode Island as our joint proposal location. On June 9th, 2022, on our five-year anniversary, we proposed to each other at Waterplace Park in Providence, followed by a weekend of engagement celebration, karaoke, wonderful food and drinks, and better company. We can’t wait to celebrate our love with you at our wedding - bring your dancing shoes!
