Our love story was over 20 years in the making. I can't tell you who was more excited the day Scroggs got down on one knee, me or our mothers. We first met when we were in grade school. Our mothers worked together and introduced us and our siblings at a playdate sometime circa 1999. We couldn't have been more than 9 or 10 years old. Even then, I had a crush on this blue eyed, blonde hair boy. Little did I know he had the same crush on me. However, we kept our crushes secret for the next, oh I don't know, 15 years. I suspected Scroggs might have a crush on me by the time we reached our 20s. He always "Liked" every single one of my social media posts. Every.Single.One. But I lived in Austin, TX at the time with no expectation of ever returning to Shreveport. I was sure our time had passed. However, as the Lord would have it, I found myself back in Shreveport in 2016. By 2019 I had finally worked up the courage to make my move. I casually asked him to join me to the LA Film Prize. Unfortunately (for me) he had committed to be a groomsmen that weekend (but yay Zack and Lauren). I waited a few weeks and mustered up the courage to ask him to be my date to an event I was hosting. He said yes! For the first time, after years of secret crushes, false starts, and wrong timings, everything felt right.
