This place is so Austin. It's weird, has a unique environment, and pretty good food. They serve Tex-Mex/Hawaiian fusion! While the food is delicious, the best part is the experience. From the crazy decorations to the gorgeous lake views, Hula Hut is a good spot.
When we need to let loose and feel like a kid again, we head to Pinballz on Friday or Saturday nights! It's an oldschool arcade with rows of pinball machines, skee ball, and it's BYOB.
If you have time for a quick adventure, take the short hike up Mount Bonnell (it's paved!). The views over Lake Austin are gorgeous, and it's been a popular tourist spot since the 1850s! It's a great place for some peace and quiet, a day date, or just to get out and explore a little.
This dusty dance hall is the perfect place to two-step the night away! An Austin classic, if you'll be near downtown Austin, be sure to check it out.
The world's largest urban bat colony in the world lives under the Congress Bridge. Every night at dusk, 1.5 million Mexican Free-Tail bats fly out into the sunset. To make sure they've been active lately (sometimes it gets too chilly for them!) call the “bat hotline” at (512) 327-9721.
If you want to squeeze in a little history, go see THE round rock that the city is named after! Since the first bridge across Brushy Creek was not constructed until after 1890, the large “round rock” marked a good place for Native Americans, cattle drives, and stagecoaches to cross the creek. Wagon wheel ruts are still visible on the exposed rock!
