Things To Do

We're so excited to share a few of our favorite places in the area with you! In addition to a multitude of outdoor activities in the surrounding Nantahala National Forest, Highlands boasts exquisite restaurants, fabulous shopping and a great cultural arts scene. The "postcard" downtown offers plenty of art galleries, antique stores and upscale boutiques. Five of the restaurants have been awarded the coveted Wine Spectator Award of Excellence. In the middle of downtown Highlands is Old Edwards Inn and Spa, a resort consisting of the historic main building, a full-service European–style spa, Madison’s Restaurant and Wine Garden.

Shopping on Main Street

Jenn's favorite women's boutique, Annawear, is located on downtown Main Street. Mike's recommendation is TJ Bailey's, also on Main. If you are interested in designer clothing, check out Rosenthal's!

Sunset Rock

Sunset Rock Trail is a 1.4 mile heavily trafficked out and back trail located near Highlands, North Carolina that features beautiful wild flowers and is good for all skill levels.

Dry Falls

Dry Falls, a popular waterfall located a few miles outside of Highlands, gives you the rare treat of walking safely behind a waterfall. This 75-ft. tall waterfall in the Nantahala National Forest flows over a cliff, allowing you to walk behind the falls and stay dry (hence the name).
