Zoe and Riley met in the most Seattle way possible, over coffee. Zoe was working as a barista at Lifeline Coffee, and Riley was one of her regulars who showed up for a mocha… and eventually, a lot more conversation. Before long, they planned a first date, which of course was a hike. That first hike turned into many more, and it didn’t take long for them to realize they had found something pretty special. Not long after they started dating, Zoe moved to Oregon to finish the last couple years of her undergrad. They spent that time doing long-distance, taking turns driving up and down between WA and OR, and talking every night on Google Meet (since Riley refuses to get an iPhone). Somehow, between the miles on the road and the late-night calls, the distance only made them closer. After Zoe graduated, they took six months off to travel the world together, visiting nine countries and developing a love for adventure that still sticks with them today, whenever work and school allow. These days, you’ll usually find them hiking, snowboarding, planning their next trip, or hanging out with their animals, Carrick, Moose, Remi, and Pua. Riley proposed at the Kirkland boat launch, where they had spent some of their early dates. With help from Zoe’s friends, he set up a beautiful surprise by the water and somehow managed to completely catch her off guard, something she was very confident was impossible. He even convinced her to wear a white dress that day without raising any suspicion. If you know them, you know they’re opposites in almost every way. Zoe talks nonstop, likes to be in control, and keeps life moving. Riley is calm, go-with-the-flow, and usually only speaks when he has something important to say. Somehow, it works perfectly. Zoe brings Riley out of his shell, and Riley keeps Zoe grounded, making them a pretty good team for whatever adventure comes next.
