How We Met

We were in the same section at BC Law, and spent the entire first year with the same schedule. We were fast friends at orientation and would run into one another in class and at parties. We started hanging out in smaller groups as the months went on and a real trust started to build. We felt connected and understood by the other and appreciated the strong friendship we had. During Covid, we would check on one another, go for walks, talk about life, school, stress, and relationships. A few months after graduating, we were hanging out with a group of friends on a Saturday night. The rest of the group turned in early, but Sam and I decided to go dancing. When we got to the door, Sam paid for both covers. We got to the bar, Sam paid for both drinks. Intrigue. A few songs after we were on the dance floor, Sam leaned in and told me that he had feelings for me. I immediately kissed him and everything fell into place.

The Proposal

We took the canoe out to the "Secret Spot" to enjoy a nice summer day in the woods. When we got to shore, Sam started suspiciously (or very smoothly depending on who you ask) rifling through his backpack when Riley was already sitting on the ground. He asked "are you ready?", revealed a small box in his hand, got down on one knee, said lovely things, and Riley cried. Par for the course. A perfect moment just the two of us.
