We met at Butler Community College on August 23, 2020, at the start of our sophomore year. Riley played basketball, and I played football. After the football team wrapped up fall camp, we threw a party to celebrate. That’s where I first saw her; Riley caught my eye from across a crowded house party. I remember pulling my teammates aside, trying to describe the girl I had seen. It took me nearly an hour to find a perfect pick up line and the courage to introduce myself. By the time I was finally ready, Riley had disappeared. I was defeated and thought that if our paths hadn’t crossed before then, they never would again. I still joke that Riley is my Cinderella. Later that same night, I invited a couple teammates back to my apartment for an afterparty. I heard a knock on the door and to my surprise Riley Hett was standing there. I didn’t waste a second introducing myself, and I spent the rest of the night with a smile on my face. From that moment on I knew that she was the one.
Nico proposed to me on April 26, 2025, at Bal Harbor beach in Miami, Florida. He had invited me to join him on a work trip to Fort Lauderdale. In the weeks leading up to the trip, Nico did several things that felt suspicious to me. He mentioned wanting to take me on a date in Miami. To prepare for the date, Nico insisted that I dress the part and even picked out a coordinated outfit for the two of us. He also suggested we take photos on the beach at sunset. Doing my nails is a hobby of mine and I love fun designs, but for this trip, he specifically requested that I did French tips; another detail that made me wonder what he was planning. When the day of our date arrived, we drove to Miami and spent time browsing a shopping center near Bal Harbor beach while we waited for sunset. Nico told me that a photographer was meeting us for couple photos on the beach at 7:30 PM. Once we arrived at the beach, I noticed a white heart made of roses near the water. I turned to Nico and said, “This is so cute someone must be proposing.” Nico then stepped behind me and whispered a question in my ear, “What would you say if all of that was for you?” We then approached the heart of roses and Nico got down on one knee.
