The day of our 3 year anniversary we awoke to snow falling. Riley had prepared a bag with a few things he claimed we needed for the day, and we headed out towards Leavenworth to hike the hiking trail where we had our first kiss 3 years earlier. Our special spot was a rock on the river edge, surrounded by mountains and raging rapids. It was a cold snowy morning as we started our trek, throwing snowballs and sliding down slippery slopes. Although our toes were frozen and our noses red, we continued on until we reached our special spot where we had shared our first kiss. We laid down a blanket and took a break and enjoyed the sounds of the water near our feet, the trees looming over us, and the snow gently floating down around us. Suddenly, Riley went around the corner and returned with champagne! I would find out later that Riley had come and hiked the whole trail and hid the champagne in the snow the day before without me knowing! After enjoying a glass , we began packing up to go home. Once everything was put away, we embraced, enjoying the cold, snowy air. It was just us, shivering in the cold, holding on to one another, knowing that in that moment there was nothing more important than each other. Riley looked me in the eyes, said some beautiful words, and dropped to his knee and pulled a ring that had been safely hiding in his pocket. The "yes" could not escape my lips fast enough! Laughing, crying, shaking, a rush of emotions came as we could barely contain our excitement! The first time we hiked that trail 3 years earlier it was the start of something amazing, a new relationship as fresh and beautiful as snow. As we made our way back home, that same feeling of something new and beautiful beginning washed over us again. That feeling is something we have shared everyday towards each other the last 3 and a half years, and an emotion we cannot wait to experience everyday for the rest of our lives together!
