In August of 2015, my best friend, Liv Knight, and I walked into our JMU sophomore year math class - MATH105, for the first time. Little did we know taking a class together was about to be one of the worst ideas academically we would ever make... that is until Riley came along. LIV K: "Liv, there's Nick Stellar's roommate, Riley" LIV B: "I have no idea who you're talking about" LIV K: "He was at our house last night. You were both sitting on the couch half asleep. He's sitting at the end of our row" I discreetly leaned back in my chair and looked to my left. Little did I know Riley had noticed us first and was leaning back to sneak a look. We caught eyes, both blushed, waved, and waited for each other after class. After we were reintroduced, I asked Riley to sit with us next class. And that was that. Riley and I grew to be close friends that whole semester. We'd grab lunch, give each other rides, but most importantly, Riley did my homework. I vividly remember frantically texting Riley one morning because Liv and I had both forgotten to do the homework - writing a unique paragraph word problem. Riley showed up to class that afternoon with not one, but three completed homework assignments… Oh yeah baby, that caught my attention. Towards the end of the semester, Riley walked into class wearing his favorite grey Pittsburgh Pirates t-shirt (he still has it). LIV B: “Let’s go Bucs" RILEY: *shocked* “What did you say?” Liv B: “Let’s go Bucs! I didn’t know you were a Pittsburgh fan” RILEY: “Wait I thought you were both from New Jersey” LIV K: “Why did you think that?” RILEY: “You’re both so tan” After discovering we grew up 45 minutes from each other, Riley asked me for a ride home for Thanksgiving. On our 4 hour drive, the three of us (of course Liv was there too) didn’t stop talking. There were many rides home in our future, but I’ll always remember the first one. When we dropped Riley off, the first words Liv said to me were, “You’re going to date Riley”. 8 years and a solid B (or C?) in Math105 later, I’m so glad she was right. - Liv
