LOVE STORY

What started as a simple missions trip in Portland, Oregon turned into the beginning of a beautifully orchestrated love story only God could write. When Riley’s brother jokingly texted her, “I found your future husband,” neither of them could have imagined how true those words would become. From the very first conversation, Riley was in awe—not just of Jose, but of what God was doing in his life. Hearing him share about his walk with the Lord drew her deeper in love with Jesus, and without even realizing it, her heart began to fall for Jose too. Life led them both to Oahu—Jose for school and Riley through a ministry opportunity—though neither of them were looking for a relationship. The first time they saw each other again was at a worship night where Jose was preaching. Riley was moved to tears as God met her so personally through his words. Though she felt something stirring in her heart, she surrendered those feelings to the Lord, trusting His timing completely. Jose, just as focused on the call God had placed on his life, wasn’t looking for a relationship either. Eight months after Riley moved to Hawaii (and three years into Jose’s time there), they finally became friends—and it instantly felt like family. As their friendship deepened, God began revealing how uniquely their callings in ministry complemented and strengthened one another. What He was building in one would help fulfill what He was building in the other. That summer, romance began to bloom. Instead of rushing ahead, they chose to step back and seek God wholeheartedly about what He desired. After time apart in prayer, Jose returned with complete peace and clarity—God had revealed that Riley was the one he was meant to pursue. Riley’s answer was easy. From the very beginning, she had been praying for him, even surrendering him to the Lord the night she first felt her heart fall. The most beautiful part of their story isn’t just how they found each other—it’s how they trusted God with every step. They laid down their timelines, their expectations, and their plans, choosing instead to let Him lead. And what He wrote has been far greater than anything they could have imagined on their own. In finding each other, they didn’t just gain a partner for life—they grew in deeper trust, surrender, and love for their Heavenly Father. Their prayer is that their marriage would always reflect the faithfulness of the One who brought them together.
