Easy math + HvZ + Harry Potter = Love. On our first day of college, we met in Math class, which was Catherine's first class (Riley's second) of college. We both saw someone that we both happened to know, Catherine had known her from high school, and Riley had met her at the Western Summer Start session, so we both decided to sit next to her. She introduced us to one another, and we became fast friends. Over the quarter we bonded over three main things, Harry Potter, because 7 pt 1 was coming out, and HvZ (Humans vs Zombies) which we were both playing on campus and lastly that both of us had thought the math class would be higher level math than it was, so it was very easy for both of us. After that quarter was over we kept "hanging out" on what we called "Coffee Dates" but they "weren't dates."

We love puzzles, mysteries and solving them. For our 5th anniversary, we did an escape room on our own, it was intended for 2-5 people and we had never done one before, but we did so well that the moderator was surprised. So for the proposal, Riley created a scavenger hunt that took Catherine 3 hours to complete. Every clue was held by a friend or family member, and each clue sent Catherine to a new location or had her call the person to get the next clue. There were actual locked boxes that Catherine had to unlock, and she had the ring with her for the entire hunt, and unknowingly was given the final key to open the engagement ring box.
