Travel

Flight

Salisbury, MD or Norfolk, VA

The Eastern Shore of Virginia is a remote strip that sits between the Chesapeake Bay and the Atlantic Ocean. Though a beautiful strip of farm land surrounded by beach, it is somewhat of a challenge to get to from afar. Salisbury Regional Airport - SBY - 1 hr 10 mins from Onancock, VA - Limited flights/Car Rental Norfolk International Airport - ORF - 1 hr 26 mins from Onancock VA - More options for flights and Car Rental & you will get to travel over the Chesapeake Bay Bridge Tunnel, a 12 mile, 2 tunnel bridge system.

Hotel

Chincoteague, Va

The eastern shore is a 70 mile strip of land. There is little tourism to the Shore other than to three bigger towns. We recommend staying in any of these towns Chincoteague Island, VA - 35 mins to Ker Place - Chincoteague is 2 miles wide, 8 mile Long Island that sits just off the sea side of the shore. It’s a charming beach town with tons of small shops, a short drive to Assateague Island National Seashore, public beach & the best place on the shore for fresh seafood. We recommend the Hampton Inn & Suites, The Marina Bay Hotel or the Comfort Suites. There are also many local B&B’s and Air B&Bs on the island. Our favorite places to eat are Bills for Breakfast, Brunch or Dinner, Sea Star for lunch, Woodys for BBQ, J&Bs to grab a sub for the beach, and the Village for the best eastern shore crab cake. Be sure to check out The Island Creamery for the best homemade ice cream in the country - just get there early to beat the lines.

Hotel

Onancock

Onancock, VA 23417

Onancock is a small Bay side town and if staying in town, you can likely walk to Ker Place. There are more B&B’s than hotels. For hotels, check out the historic Charlotte Hotel. If staying in Onancock be sure to grab breakfast or lunch at Janet’s General Store and Cafe - this is a Sunday Tradition for our family and you cannot beat her Orange French Toast. We also love Maurices or Mallards for Lunch or Dinner and the Onancock Bakery has the best donuts on the east coast. Be sure to get there early before they run out. Onancock has a small strip of shops and art gallery’s in town to visit as well.

Hotel

Cape Charles

Cape Charles, VA 23310

Cape Charles is another Bay Side town with tons of shops and restaurants that line a harbor and beach. We love to take day trips to Cape Charles, spend the day on the beach and then grab a bite to eat at the Brewery or Ice Cream at Brown Dog. The Cape Charles Hotel is a great place to stay and walk just about any where in town. There are other B&B’s around town as well. We recommend checking out the many shops, art gallery’s and restaurants in town. The beach is a public access beach that meets the Chesapeake Bay. Unlike the beaches of Chincoteague, there will be no waves and the water is often warmer as it is more stagnant.
