Riley and Sam met all the way back in middle school. They had a couple classes together in 7th grade and even "dated" for a while. However, Sam broke things off with Riley because he didn't want to buy her a Christmas present (and no, Riley hasn't and won't let him live that down.. :) ). The following year, Riley and her family moved to Illinois so the two were no longer at the same school, but still kept in touch here and there.
Flash forward about 10 years, Sam and Riley reconnected at their mutual friend Abbey's college graduation party. The two of them talked for a little while, catching up. The following morning, Sam texted Riley to check in and see how she was doing and their relationship took off from there. Riley was still living in Grand Rapids, MI finishing her last semester of school and Sam was in Racine, WI. Throughout that semester, Sam and Riley both visited each other and their relationship continued to grow. The following year, Riley moved in with Sam in Wisconsin.
Sam and Riley were in Oregon for Sam's cousin's wedding. Riley had absolutely NO idea that Sam planned to propose on this trip. Mind you, she had been leaving hints here and there about a ring but didn't think that it was going to happen anytime soon. The night before they were going to fly back home, Sam and Riley planned to watch the sunset with some of Sam's family which seemed totally normal to Riley - still clueless. As they were about to walk over to the beach, Sam's cousin Katelyn (who happens to be an amazing photographer) said she was going to head to the beach before the kids came to get some pictures. Sam asked if she'd take some pictures of him and Riley. Still, Riley is clueless because it all seems so normal! So, Sam, Riley and Katelyn ( a photographer) walk over to the beach, not suspicious at all, right?! As Sam and Riley were getting pictures taken, Riley turned around to get her hair under control and when she turned back around Sam was down on one knee. The first words out of her mouth were, "What are you doing?!" But the next one was, "Yes!!"
